On the Forum

Secretary Cao Xin concluded that the school was making unremitting efforts to achieve "characteristic, integrated, and leap-forward development." We look forward to attracting energetic and creative talents with dreams to join our school to jointly create a greater civil engineering discipline featured by the combination of water conservancy and civil engineering.

As a platform for talent introduction and academic exchange, this forum is of great significance for promoting the development of our school.

Concerted efforts in recruiting talents

After the meeting, the participating teachers, students, and scholars wrote down their feelings for the event and expressed their attachment to SYSU.

From the faculty:

Liu Jiankun (Deputy Dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Professor):

The Zhuhai Forum was successfully held, and it was inspiring. At the opening ceremony, the mayor of Zhuhai introduced the fine resources of Zhuhai. The president of SYSU, Luo Jun narrated the history and future of SYSU. Their introductions have deeply attracted the participating scholars, who were amazed by the hundred-year old history of SYSU and its promising future. Academician Wang Fuming explained "consolidating the dam and repairing the road," which was magnificent and heartening; academician Da Ke portrayed the ocean blueprint and national strategy, which remained arduous tasks.

The Civil Engineering sub-forum has brought together more than a dozen outstanding scholars from all over the world. Most scholars were very much looking forward to joining the faculty. In the future, the School of Civil Engineering will exert more effort in the introduction of talents, build on the strength of all the people and strive to make progress, so as to build a world-class greater civil engineering discipline with Chinese characteristics as soon as possible.

Ni Pengpeng (Professor, awardee of the national overseas high-level youth talent introduction project, teacher recruited in 2019):

In this forum, I was deeply touched by the in-depth exchanges with outstanding scholars at home and abroad. As scientific researchers, we should proceed from the actual needs of China, overcome difficulties, and strive to develop the core technology in key areas, and contribute to the national scientific research work and national revival.

The School of Civil Engineering is featured by the combination of water conservancy and civil engineering, and actively accommodated with the national strategic needs to discover the direction of the discipline development; the leaders of the School focus on discipline construction and personnel training, vigorously carry out talent introduction, and seek talents in an earnest way, from which I see the sincerity and determination they put in their hard work.

With those opportunities in the era, I believe that with the joint efforts of colleagues in the School, we will not forget the initial aspiration, and forge forward to build a first-class university and shape the future!

Participating scholar:

Zheng Hao (Assistant Professor, Japanese):

I am very honored to be invited to participate in the Zhuhai Forum held by Sun Yat-sen University and conduct frank and in-depth exchanges with the teachers of SYSU and the School of Civil Engineering in particular. Through the introduction of president Luo, we learned about the time-honored history of SYSU and its grand vision for future development all while being impressed by the anticipation of SYSU for young overseas scholars.

Through the sub-forum, the enthusiasm and sincerity of the teachers of the School of Civil Engineering and their rich professional knowledge left a deep impression on me. As for expertise, the teachers gave me guidance, which I believe to be very practical and agreeable, and I now have more confidence in my future work. This was an unforgettable journey. I felt the warmth from the faculty and students in just two days. Thank you!

Kadiya (PhD student, Russian):

First of all, I want to sincerely thank Sun Yat-sen University for hosting this forum. This is the third time that I have come to the Zhuhai Campus of SYSU to participate in academic exchanges. It is also the third time that I have deep feelings for the university. Participating in this forum, I have not only shared knowledge with young scholars but also received professional and constructive feedback, which benefited me a lot. This is like a tree, gaining nutrients and growing up. SYSU also gives us wisdom and strength. I am very happy to have met this university and I am looking forward to joining SYSU. I’m grateful to the university and the faculty.

From volunteers:

Zheng Yin (School of Civil Engineering, 2018 undergraduate):

The Zhuhai Forum, which had been in preparation for a long time, has finally been successfully held today. In the preparation process of the forum, as a volunteer, I have not only gained valuable work skills, but more importantly, I have a deeper understanding of the university and confidence in the future. The teacher's guidance at work and the atmosphere felt during the forum reflected the School’s eagerness and the university’s talents, making me understand the university’s determination to build a first-class university. The School is young, and we are young as well. We will work together to build a dynamic and thriving school of “greater civil engineering.” The future is bright, and I see a better SYSU over the horizon.

Zhu Haojie (School of Civil Engineering, 2018 undergraduate):

I am honored that the school can give me such a precious opportunity to become a volunteer in the Zhuhai Forum. Assisting the reception of scholars and helping manage the materials on site were contributions I made to the event. Taking up the publicity board that fell down was just my duty as a volunteer, but I hadn’t expected it to be noticed by the school leaders and teachers, and I was praised by them. , I have fallen in love with the school ever since entering it. The university stands on the coast of the South China Sea with Guangdong characteristics and a broad international perspective. Immersed in the good learning atmosphere of the campus, I deeply appreciate the importance that the university attaches to the cultivation of our undergraduate students. Through this activity, I have had a deeper understanding of the university’s current development and have found a clearer plan for its own development. I look forward to contributing to the development of the School and the university in the future.

*Editor's Note: During the forum, Zhu Haojie actively assisted the participating scholars of the School of Civil Engineering and helped the teachers form the Talent Development Office to carry out the registration. His serious and responsible attitude at work was affirmed by all the teachers. On the afternoon of June 1st, he saw conference roadside panel felled by the wind. He then raised and fixed it. This scene was seen and photographed by a teacher.
